The Beach, Riu Touareg
Cape Verde Islands

Beach

The beach is about 8 km long and there is virtually no-one else here except the 2000 hotel guests, so plenty of room for quiet contemplative walks before sunset or first thing in the morning.

It is very clean, we picked up just one piece of plastic rubbish in four days, equalled only by the single dead flying fish we found yesterday.

The eastern half of the island's coastline is designated as a nature reserve, the main focus of conservation being the loggerhead turtles that breed on these immaculate beaches.

The western half of the coastline has been apparently mostly sold for hotel construction.
